CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

A.   Background of the Study

These days music is not what they seem to be, well before Rap was introduced, the music back then were calming, relaxing and was an ecstasy to the human body. But now people who listen to them tend to do violent things, not because they were ordered to but because they think its ok to do it just because it was in a music that they heard. Nowadays music is often heard everywhere, but not that traditional music. Instead we hear a lot of “Hip Hop” music, also known as “Rap.” People make music to be heard, for pleasure, and to express their thoughts, but now, music became more violent than ever. This includes people who even listen to them because; some people don’t seem to understand the meaning of what they are uttering.

Although Rap is a genre, it also has different kinds of genres, such as “Christian Hip-hop,” “Electro freestyle hip-hop,” “Hardcore hip hop”, and others. Let me tell you this, its not what they seem to be. They are all popular because they seem very catchy, sometimes it’s kind of hard to pronounce the words, but still, the listeners don’t even realize that the song or music that they are listening to goes directly to the brain, without any traces of memorizing it. The brain processes the violent music you have heard and the tendency is they might go mutiny.

There are songs that the lyrics can hold grudges and destroy a person, such as Bobby Digital in “Domestic Violence”; thus was stated there “When I first met you, you was a hoe. I tried to reform you, bomb you, warned you and teach you, but couldn’t reach you. And you’re still a hoe. Your father said you was a hoe, and when you leave me, bitch you’re gonna be hoe.” Another one on Willie D in “I Need Some P-ssy.” Also stated in the song “I need some pussy this muthafuckin minute. Show me some pussy and I’ma go up in it. I’m so damn horny tonight for smash. That I’d fuck Whoopie Goldberg ugly ass.”

Those violent rap songs are mostly to women who are being abused and tolerated. Hearing these songs on the radio might be funny, but to others they are just disrespectful. It shows how the song portrays about misogyny, also it’s not only in what you see but they do make videos out of those song. A lot of citizens would think that it would be ok for the guys to do that to women. When it comes songs like that it becomes natural to people to say, “hoe” a lot of times but in fact that is not a good words.

Noticing that the violent rap songs that they sing are really meaningful it’s not something they could just sing out loud, just for fun. There are still more violent rap other than that, but more unforgiving. What made them write the song? What was on their minds that they even have to make a video about that song, because it’s not something they could just show in public.
